How To Install DRL Modules on a BMW G8x/G2x car

Tools needed:

  • Jack and Jack Stands
  • 1/4 drive Ratchet
  • T20 Socket
  • 10mm Socket
  • Flathead Screwdriver
  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • Optional - Heat Gun

Inner DRL Module - Process is the same for Driver and Passenger Side

This module is located on top of the light and is easily accessible from the engine bay.

1. Pop the hood.

2. Remove the head sink on top of the headlight

  1. Undo the 2 T20 bolts holding it in.
  2. Lift it up slightly and unplug wiring harness on back of heatsink

3. Remove OEM lighting board

  1. Take note of the orientation and how the board sits on the head sink
  2. This is where the optional heat gun can be used to heat them up slightly to loosen the glue.
  3. Using the flat head screwdriver pry off the board.
  4. The modules are side specific, and heat sink specific. There will be wording on the heatsink saying if it's for Left or Right. Match the board shape and side with the heat sink.
  5. Using rubbing alcohol clean off the factory glue from the back of the heatsink
  6. Peal off the adhesive backing on the new module.
  7. Stick new module onto the heat sink in the same orientation as the original. Give it a firm press.

    Outer DRL Module - Process is the same for Driver and Passenger Side

    1. Jack up and support car
    2. Remove front wheel
    3. Remove wheel well liner with 10mm socket
    4. Remove the head sink on back of the headlight
      1. Undo the 2 T20 bolts holding it in.
      2. Lift it up slightly and unplug wiring harness on back of heatsink
    5. Remove OEM lighting board
      1. Take note of the orientation and how the board sits on the head sink
      2. This is where the optional heat gun can be used to heat them up slightly to loosen the glue.
      3. Using the flat head screwdriver pry off the board.

    6. Reconnect and install heatsink
