An engine oil cooler and filter housing plays a critical role in maintaining optimal oil temperature, preventing the oil from breaking down under high heat and load, and filtering damaging particles out of your oil. The problem is the BMW made the housing out of plastic. Overtime with the changes in heat the plastic gets brittle and starts to crack. This is will happen to all OEM plastic oil filter housings at some point leading to oil and coolant mixing, a known potentially catastrophic problem if left unchecked. Indicators like fluid leaks or “milkshake” oil might be noticeable if caught in time but it's just a matter of time. This will also cause an oil leak down the driver side of the engine(covered by the intake manifold).
The solution is this complete metal housing upgrade with new gasket seals, oil filter cap, and heavy-duty oil filter, new bolts, and an upgraded oil cooler that all exceed OEM standards. This is a perfect mod for any B58 owner. It doesn't matter if you're stock or modded, your OEM housing will fail.
